松島 慶（広島大学）：Optimizing Shapes: Metamaterial Design and the Unknotting Problem

講演要旨

Shape optimization appears in many mathematical and scientific problems, from designing materials with desired physical properties to simplifying tangled curves. In this talk, I will discuss two examples: the design of acoustic/optical/mechanical metamaterials and the unknotting problem. Although these topics seem quite different, both can be viewed as problems of deforming shapes under geometric or topological constraints. I will introduce the basic ideas behind these optimization problems, explain how mathematical models can guide the search for good shapes, and highlight some challenges that arise when geometry, topology, and computation interact.
