An Explanatory Article by SKCM² Researchers Published in Kagaku (Japanese Science Magazine, May 2026)
An explanatory article by a team including Professor Muneto Nitta (a Visiting Researcher at SKCM²) and Professor Minoru Eto (an Affiliate Member at SKCM²) was published in the May 2026 issue of “科学(Kagaku)”. The article, titled “宇宙ひもの結び目と物質の起源 (Cosmic Knots and Origin of Matter),” introduces their recent theoretical work on thread-like defects formed in the early universe called cosmic strings. In the work, they discovered that cosmic strings form knot structures and collapse while generating matter and anti-matter, which explains why our universe consists of matter and not anti-matter.
