My research interests lie at the intersection of non-equilibrium statistical physics, soft matter and machine learning. In particular, I am fascinated by design principles and physical mechanisms that give rise to complex emergent phenomena, non-trivial response to stimuli and intelligent behavior. I combine Monte Carlo and molecular simulations with tools from statistical mechanics and information theory to study simple collective models and soft matter systems.
Currently, I am working on defining machine-learned effective potentials to model interacting topological solitons in chiral liquid crystals. I am particularly interested in understanding how topological excitations interact, organize and process information collectively, and in leveraging these insights for the design of reconfigurable metamaterials and unconventional information-processing platforms.
