Bio
Dr. Ashik Ikbal Sheikh is an Assistant Professor (Special Appointment) at WPI-SKCM², Hiroshima University and Adjunct Faculty at Kent State University, working at the frontier of experimental high-energy nuclear and particle physics. His research focuses on ultra-peripheral heavy-ion collisions and vector-meson photoproduction within the STAR (BNL) and ALICE (CERN) collaborations to image the gluonic structure of atomic nuclei, probing one of the most elusive frontiers in quantum chromodynamics (QCD). His scientific contributions are matched by sustained leadership within international collaborations: he currently serves as Co-convener of the STAR LFSUPC physics working group, helping set the scientific direction for the collaboration's ultra-peripheral collisions program, and as Convener of the STAR Data QA Board, where he oversees data-quality assurance across the experiment. Distinctively, Dr. Sheikh pairs this physics insight with hands-on instrumentation expertise, contributing to state-of-the-art AC-LGAD Time-of-Flight detector R&D for the future Electron-Ion Collider. This positions his research program at the intersection of precision QCD measurements and the detector technology that will drive discovery at next-generation facilities.
