Takayuki Nakamuro (WPI-SKCM²): Molecular Electron Microscopy: An Overview

Science Knot 2F Large Conference Room (205) and Zoom

Abstract

Atomic-resolution transmission electron microscopy (AR-TEM) has achieved spatiotemporal resolutions at the sub-ångström and millisecond scales. This capability positions AR-TEM as a powerful analytical tool for exploring the molecular world.
In this seminar, I will first provide an overview of the historical development of AR-TEM, and then discuss its potential as a platform for molecular-level investigation. Particular emphasis will be placed on illustrating what can be achieved with this technique, with the aim of making the concepts accessible and engaging to researchers from diverse disciplines.

In addition, I will introduce the specifications of the (S)TEM recently installed at Hiroshima University WPI-SKCM2, and outline the types of experiments and research opportunities that can be pursued using this instrument.
