University of Birmingham/WPI-SKCM² Joint Symposium

University of Birmingham & Online

This Joint Symposium is a one-day event to mark the beginning of a partnership between the University of Birmingham and WPI-SKCM² for fostering collaboration and exchanging students and postdocs. The symposium will take place Friday, April 4, 2025, from 09:00–17:00 BST / 17:00–01:00 JST at the Edgbaston Park Hotel & Conference Centre at UoB and online.

The program is designed to deepen disciplinary connections while encouraging cross-disciplinary exchange in exploring and exploiting chirality and topology in seemingly diverse matter / materials.

The morning will feature two parallel sessions of 25-minute talks by outstanding researchers from both the UK and Japan affiliated to either the University of Birmingham or  WPI-SKCM². The afternoon will include:

  • A presentation by representatives from JSPS London, highlighting funding opportunities for international collaboration
  • A roundtable discussion focused on identifying promising avenues for future joint research efforts
