Member categories and roles
Leadership
Members of the institute’s executive team responsible for the strategic planning, scientific direction, education, outreach, internationalization, and overall management of WPI-SKCM².
Principal Investigators (PIs)
Core faculty members who lead major research programs within WPI-SKCM². PIs are responsible for establishing research directions, supervising researchers and students, securing collaborations, and contributing to the institute’s interdisciplinary mission.
Co-Principal Investigators (Co-PIs)
Researchers who are based at Hiroshima University and play important roles within a PI-led research program. Co-PIs contribute to project planning, supervision, interdisciplinary collaboration, and mentoring while working closely with a designated PI.
Project Researchers
Researchers who are based at Hiroshima University and engaged in WPI-SKCM² projects and initiatives. They contribute specialized expertise, lead project-based research activities, and help advance the institute’s scientific objectives.
Visiting Researchers
Researchers affiliated with other institutions who collaborate with WPI-SKCM². They are typically appointed as part-time Specially Appointed Faculty Members at Hiroshima University. They contribute their expertise, participate in collaborative research activities, and help strengthen both domestic and international research networks.
Senior Postdoctoral Researchers
Experienced early-career researchers who conduct collaborative research within WPI-SKCM² under the guidance of their mentors and are appointed as Specially Appointed Faculty Members (Associate Professor or Assistant Professor). In addition to their research activities, they may also contribute to educational activities.
Postdoctoral Researchers
Early-career researchers who conduct advanced research under the guidance of their mentors and contribute to the institute’s research programs.
Affiliate Members
Researchers primarily affiliated with other institutions who contribute to the scientific activities of WPI-SKCM² through collaborative research, joint projects, and interdisciplinary exchange. They may participate in institutional activities and are encouraged to acknowledge WPI-SKCM² as an affiliation when publishing research papers arising from collaborations with WPI-SKCM2.
Community Members
Researchers primarily affiliated with other institutions who engage with WPI-SKCM² through collaborative research, joint projects, and interdisciplinary exchanges. While they are not formal members of the institute and are generally not involved in its institutional activities, they receive information on WPI-SKCM² programs and events.
Advisors
Individuals affiliated with external organizations who provide professional advice, expertise, and guidance on specific activities and initiatives of the institute.
