Science Knot and WPI-SKCM² Research Featured in Hiroshima University Update

The latest issue of Hiroshima University Update is now available online, featuring both the Science Knot Building and the latest research from WPI-SKCM².

Science Knot is introduced as a new hub for research, collaboration, and student career support. The six-story building serves as the home of WPI-SKCM² while bringing together students, researchers, and industry partners to foster new forms of collaboration across disciplines and organizations. The feature also highlights the JEOL × Hiroshima University Knotted Room, a shared-use facility equipped with NEOARM, an advanced electron microscope capable of atomic-resolution TEM/STEM observation.

The issue also features the latest research involving Prof. Ivan Smalyukh, a Principal Investigator at WPI-SKCM². Published in Nature Physics, the study reports the creation of stable and switchable “vortex knots” in chiral nematic liquid crystals.

We are delighted to see Science Knot and research from WPI-SKCM² highlighted in Hiroshima University Update. We hope these features will introduce more readers to our research environment and the exciting scientific activities taking place within it.
