Bio
Dwaipayan Chakrabarti studies soft matter, with his expertise in computation and theory, to design and develop advanced materials, with a focus on devising strategies for their scalable fabrication that exploits programmed self-assembly routes for a range of building blocks, from molecular to microscale. In recent years, he has made significant contributions in designing the self-assembly of colloidal open crystals for photonic applications and uncovering topological aspects of liquid-liquid phase transitions, with implications for our fundamental understanding of water’s anomalous thermodynamic properties. He is interested in exploring and exploiting the role of topology to impart exotic behaviour and/or novel properties to certain soft materials, for example, liquid crystals, nematic colloids, and colloidal open crystals and empty liquids.
