I work on hyperbolic 3-manifolds. The complements of many knots and links are hyperbolic. I have mainly researched to characterize manifolds by specific properties and construct interesting examples. For example, the complements of the four links in my photo have many special properties. Furthermore, I joined an interdisciplinary project to develop thermoplastic elastomers.
What I like about my science
Abstraction and generalization can reveal unexpected relations among many objects. In addition, generalizations of structures often enable continuous deformation. Nevertheless, it is interesting to encounter individual special objects again and again. It is also nice to obtain visually appealing examples.
