Bio
Ricca is a world expert in topological fluid dynamics. He received his PhD in Mathematics from Cambridge University under the supervision of Professor HK Moffatt FRS. He is known for fundamental work on helicity, vortex dynamics, and physical knot theory. He organised and directed several advanced schools and conferences, including some long-term research programmes, in particular one on Geometry and Topology of Fluid Flows at the Newton Institute (Cambrige) in 2000, and one on Knots and Applications at the De Giorgi Mathematics Research Centre of the Scuola Normale (Pisa) in 2011.
