My research field is topology, which is a branch of mathematics that studies properties of shapes and spaces that are invariant under continuous deformation. In particular, I mainly work in low-dimensional topology. Geometric structures, topological invariants and symmetries (mapping class groups) of knots and links, 3- and 4-manifolds are my main research subjects. I work to give combinatorial interpretations to concepts defined on those low-dimensional objects via differential and geometric structures, and to extract computable quantities from them.
