WPI-SKCM2 is supporting travel to Miyajima for those taking the chartered bus departing from HU. Space is limited. If you would like a spot on the bus, please register here. Please register by December 15, 2023.

Please note: Participants will need to arrange their own meals. Miyajima Island offers a variety of exciting food options to explore and enjoy.


Outreach Symposium (10-11:30 AM)

The Outreach Symposium presentations will focus on the theme of “Sharing Science with the Public.” The speakers have a diversity of knowledge and experience sharing science with the public, including public outreach events, working with the UN, international press, and the 3 Minute Thesis Competition. Speakers will have the opportunity to share their experiences with science outreach and some strategies to make scientific concepts more accessible and engaging for public audiences.

Touch the Knot Event (12-4:00 PM)

In the afternoon, WPI-SKCM2 will host a “Touch the Knot” event, featuring virtual reality experiences and mizuhiki crafting. There will be opportunities for free interaction and discussion with participants, including the public.

What can you expect?

  • First-hand accounts from professionals actively making science accessible to the general public.
  • Whether you’re a seasoned science communicator, a passionate advocate for science, or someone intrigued by the process of public engagement, this event offers an opportunity to share knowledge, strategies, and to network.
  • Held on the island of Miyajima, the stunning Japanese UNESCO World Heritage Site
