Muneto Nitta(Keio University) Skyrmions and Domain Walls in Chiral Magnets and Chiral Lagrangian (Dense Baryonic Matter)

Hybrid, VBL 204 & Zoom

Abstract

(1) Chiral magnets can be described by an O(3) nonlinear sigma model with the Dzyaloshinskii–Moriya (DM) interaction. Ground states are chiral soliton lattices or Skyrmion lattices in certain parameter regions due to the DM term. In the first part, I will introduce a domain-wall Skyrmion, that is a composite state of a domain wall and Skyrmion in chiral magnets. (2) (2) On the other hand, in high density baryonic matter under a strong magnetic field and/or rapid rotation (relevant for neutron star interiors), chiral symmetry is spontaneously broken and low-energy physics can be described by chiral Lagrangian with the Wess-Zumino-Witten (WZW) term. In this case too, the ground states are chiral soliton lattices in certain parameter region due to the WZW term. I will point out that chiral soliton lattices are in general composed of non-Abelian solitons [2]. Further I will discuss domain wall Skyrmions in this case
